Analysis: details of methods

We used an activity theory framework to lay out the issues and themes mentioned by teachers and HoDs, and observed by us in department meetings. This framework was helpful in allowing us to see where and how teachers' reported views differed from those of the HoDs, or from the majority of teachers in a school, or from what appeared to have been agreed. It also allowed us to identify difficulties within a department, and how they might have arisen. Furthermore, it showed us the shortcomings of such a method of analysis. See how the departments worked and also Beswick, Watson & DeGeest.
