What all teachers, new and experienced, said about change

Several comments were common for all teachers. They reported changing from using textbooks to using a pack of varied tasks which they restructure for individual classes. Some no longer use textbooks at all, others use textbooks as sources of ideas to adapt for more exploratory use, or for fluency of skills. Many reported that they were 'better at questioning', e.g. "I make much more use of 'thinking' questions".

Some indicated a difference since the start of the project, a stronger sense of purpose about the use of long tasks, for example: "I am more structured in the way I use 'rich' tasks than before, but less structured than my previous teaching"

It was common for teachers to worry about relating this work to the NC for reporting purposes, but nearly all stopped worrying at the end. One said that her usual way was to worry about who had learnt what, and she couldn't do that any more, so she stopped worrying about that and started worrying about working habits instead - which she knew something about.
