What the first year felt like for teachers: details

In every school there were one or two teachers who expressed resistance and doubts about the changes. One teacher did not believe that PLAS were capable of learning the same mathematical ideas as others. Others talked about the difficulty of teaching students with a wide range of attainment and behaviour. This latter view was shared by many teachers who were positive about the changes and were trying to develop ways of teaching that developed good work habits and also took account of differences. There were some NQTs in SP and FH who had the usual problems of the first year of teaching, but they felt that these were ameliorated by the emphasis on teamwork into which they were drawn. In FH it appeared to be the newer teachers who formed the core team in terms of instituting change.
