Learning from 'parallel' lessons

Slight differences in task and pedagogy can lead to significant differences in learning

Teachers talked of using graduated examples of increasing difficulty, but also that apparently slight changes, such as simplification, can change an activity and make it into something else. It was mentioned that textbook exercises are never equivalent in the learning experiences they provide. For example, having equipment makes for different activity; it is more likely that some will use trial and error for small numbers and objects rather than a deductive approach.
